National Lightning Safety Council

About The
National Lightning Safety Council

The National Lightning Safety Council was established to promote lightning safety through education and awareness and consists of lightning safety professionals working to save lives, prevent injuries, and protect property from lightning. The Council works with its partners in the broadcast and print media to provide the public with accurate and up-to-date information on lightning deaths, injuries, and incidents throughout the year. The Council utilizes its annual National Lightning Safety Awareness Week (the last full week of June) as a unique opportunity to work with the media, outdoor recreational organizations, and various governmental agencies to provide the public with information on the dangers of lightning and how to stay safe.
